Where are you based, and do you come to me?
We are based in Whaley Bridge and we are mobile, so for most treatments we come to you. Most of our work is in and around Whaley Bridge, and we also travel throughout Tameside, Cheshire and Derbyshire. It means no waiting room, no rushing, and appointments at times that actually suit you. Some of our holistic treatments also run at the Wednesday evening sessions at Mottram Reiki and Holistic Centre.
Are you DBS checked and insured?
Yes to both, and the DBS is current. We are happy to show it, which tends to matter if you are a care home, an agency, a school or a parent booking baby massage. Just ask.
Can I learn a therapy with you and get certified?
Yes. We run classes where you learn a therapy properly and finish with a certificate in your name. We also hold a Level 4 teaching qualification, so the courses are structured and assessed rather than made up as we go along. More training courses are being added through the year, so tell us what you would like to learn.
I am having cancer treatment. Can I have a massage?
Often yes, and cancer touch therapy is specifically adapted for it, with lighter pressure, careful positioning and areas avoided where they need to be. Please check with your oncology team first and tell us what they say. It is offered as comfort and relaxation alongside your medical care, never as a treatment for the illness itself.
How does ear acupuncture for addictions work?
Five very fine, single-use needles are placed in specific points on the outer ear and you sit quietly for around 30 to 45 minutes, fully clothed. People generally describe feeling calmer, sleeping better and finding cravings easier to sit with. It supports your recovery alongside your key worker, GP or support group rather than replacing any of it. It can be done one to one or as a group session, which is how most services run it. See acupuncture for addictions.
Do you do events?
Yes. Fairs, wellbeing days, corporate events and private functions. Chair massage and taster treatments work well for crowds, and group meditation, breathwork or sound sessions work well where there is a quiet space. Get in touch with the date and rough numbers.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes, and we will not skip it. For simple beauty treatments it is quick. For anything advanced or injectable it is a separate appointment covering suitability, your medical history, realistic results and aftercare.
What about patch tests?
Tinting and certain other treatments need a patch test at least 48 hours beforehand. We arrange it when you book. It is there to protect you, so we do not make exceptions however inconvenient it is.
What is the difference between lymphatic and Brazilian lymphatic drainage?
Both encourage the lymphatic system to move fluid along. Traditional lymphatic drainage is very light and slow. The Brazilian version is firmer and more sculpting, using stronger, faster strokes. Which suits you depends on why you are having it, and we will talk that through at the consultation.
I have had surgery. Can I book lymphatic drainage?
Often yes, and it is a common reason people book it, but only once your surgeon or GP has signed you off as ready for massage. Please check with them first and let us know at the consultation. We would rather wait than rush it.
What does Level 4 sports massage mean?
It is the advanced clinical qualification in sports and remedial massage, above the Level 3 that most sports massage is delivered at. In practice it means assessment as well as treatment: working out what is actually causing the problem rather than just working on the sore bit.
Is baby massage done to my baby, or do you teach me?
We teach you. You do the massage with your baby while we show you the strokes and the order, so you can carry on at home. Parents usually find it helps with wind, colic, restlessness and settling at bedtime.
How much does it cost?
Prices depend on the treatment and on what you actually need, which is one of the things the consultation establishes. Ring or email and we will give you a straight answer. Packages and multi-treatment discounts are available.
Can I combine treatments in one appointment?
Usually yes, and plenty of people do. A facial with a massage, or a pedicure with reflexology, works well. Some combinations are better spaced out and we will tell you if that applies.
I am pregnant, or I have a health condition. Can I still book?
Possibly, but it depends entirely on the treatment. Some are not suitable during pregnancy or with certain conditions or medications. Tell us at the consultation and we will be honest with you about what we can and cannot do.
How far will you travel?
Most of our work is in and around Whaley Bridge, including New Mills, Furness Vale, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Disley and Buxton. We also travel throughout Tameside to Hyde, Mottram, Stalybridge, Hattersley and Ashton-under-Lyne, into Cheshire around Poynton, Bollington and Macclesfield, and across Derbyshire more widely. If you are a little further out, ask, we will usually be able to sort something.
